Cancer
Mood:  sad

My mother has kidney cancer. Her oncologist is not doing all that he can do to help her. In Nov. 2006, she was put on Nexavar. I call this drug, chemo in a pill. This drug is very expensive and can only be purchased through the the drug company. Mom was taken off the drug in Dec. 2006 so that she would eat. Nexavar helped mom; she was pain free and happy. She had side effects that made walking difficult but at least she was pain free. In Jan. 2007, she was put on another drug. The oncologist did not send her in for a bone scan or CAT. He just put her on another drug! On Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, I had to take my mother to the ER because of the pain she was in. The ER doctors said that mom should had a CAT and a bone scan prior to be given the new drug in January. The ER doctors were not happy. It was also discovered that she now has another mass in her kidney area. I am worried about her. I pay for 90% of all her needs.

I contacted the Cancer Center for America. They said that mom's oncologist should had done a better job of screening her by getting CAT and or Bone scan. I cannot take mom to and from Tupleo OK because of her pain. The drive would be too much for her. I cannot afford to fly her.

Today, I noticed that mom's normally bluish tint skin tone was yellow. It looks like jaundince. Thankfully mom has an appointment with her urologist tomorrow.

Today, Feb. 6th, mom saw her urologist. Her color problem is the result of her drug and not kidney failure. We talked to the urologist concerning the oncologists' failure to do X-rays of any type before putting mom on anothe drug. The urologist was not happy. He even told me that the Cancer Treatment Center will not do anything more for mom than they are doing for her now.

It is possible that mom will have surgery to remove her cancerous rib and or receive radiation treatment.
